Neil N. Snyder III

BG (R) | Commissioned Class of 1968

Brigadier General Neil N. Snyder III is a native of Camden, Arkansas. He graduated from the University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and was commissioned as a Regular Army officer in the Adjutant General’s Corps as a Distinguished Military Graduate. He later earned a Master of Public Administration from the University.

BG Snyder has a strong family tradition of military service- his grandfathers, father, and son, currently assigned to the Joint Staff, have all served on active duty as U.S. Army officers. He is a Veteran of the Vietnam War and the Cold War and culminated his nearly 30-year Army career as the Commanding General of the U.S. Army Soldier Support Institute at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, for which he received the Army Distinguished Service Medal.


In retirement, he served as Executive Vice President of Peoples Telephone Company and has been active in community affairs in Tallahassee, Florida, including serving as Chairman of the Board of the 211 Big Bend Counseling Service.


BG Snyder is an active senior triathlete and was a member of the 2018 USA Triathalon TEAMUSA to the ITU age group World Championships in Gold Coast, Australia.
